![]() ![]() My week now consisted of 4 bike workouts (1 speed, 1 semi long), 3 runs (1 speed, 1 long), and 3 swims (2 speed). At this point, I also stopped strength training, as it was just too much for me. This first general phase would cover the next 8 weeks alternating between 3 weeks of increased training load and 1 week of transition or recovery. Up next is a lot of detail about training so if that kind of stuff bores you, I would go ahead and skip to the race section.Īlthough only my 3rd week of training, I started on what was supposed to be week 5 of the plan. ![]() 8020 Endurance plans feature 8020 polarized training, as the name would imply. This was recommended by a fellow Team Zoot member. The workout volume felt too light on normal volume settings, but was completely overwhelming on high volume settings.Ģ weeks into the program, I decided to switch plans to the 8020 Endurance Level 2 Ironman Plan. This was entirely due to my body recovering from 3CR. My hands were numb and I would suffer shooting pain up to my elbows due to minor neuropathy. Every time I stood up my bones would creak, crack, and pop. My plan was to follow a training program from the TriDot platform along with a strength plan from 8020 Endurance. Nevertheless, time was ticking so after resting for just a week, I hopped right into Ironman training. ![]() Distance: 2.4 mile swim / 112 mile bike / 26.2 mile runĪfter finishing Oceanside 70.3 in April, I turned my attention to randonneuring and ended up doing some pretty epic rides culminating in the 3CR 1000k in May.The race featured a downriver swim on the American and Sacramento Rivers, a pancake flat bike course through West Sacramento wine country, and a flat run through Sacramento ending at the state Capitol. In theory, this was supposed to be an extremely fast course, perfect for first timers. After a freak bomb cyclone cancelled what was supposed to be the inaugural IMCA last year, I decided to sign up. The race took place in Sacramento, California. Ironman California (IMCA) was my main goal race for the year (2022) and my first full Ironman. ![]()
